  • New Model

Audi has unveiled new details of the highly anticipated A2 e-tron, an all-electric compact model that promises to become the most efficient Audi ever produced. Set to make its debut in autumn 2026, the A2 e-tron combines innovative engineering, advanced aerodynamics and intelligent battery technology to deliver exceptional efficiency without compromising everyday usability.

Designed for Efficiency

At the heart of the new A2 e-tron is a clear objective: maximise efficiency and range for everyday driving. According to preliminary WLTP figures, the 140 kW version equipped with Audi's optional Efficiency Package consumes just 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometres, making it the most efficient model in Audi's history.

Commenting on the new model, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said:

"The Audi A2 has been a constant in my career ever since I joined the Volkswagen Group in the 1990s. Even then, its groundbreaking three-litre version made efficiency its hallmark. This is precisely the vision we are carrying forward with the new A2 e-tron: outstanding efficiency, excellent everyday usability, and a clear understanding of what customers expect from modern electric mobility."

Aerodynamics That Go Further

One of the biggest contributors to the A2 e-tron's impressive efficiency is its aerodynamic design. With a drag coefficient of just 0.24, it boasts the best aerodynamic performance of any Audi compact model to date.

The sleek silhouette features a rounded front end, flowing roofline and sharply tapered rear, all carefully developed to minimise drag and improve energy consumption. Additional features including air curtains, wheel arch gap reducers and active cooling intakes help manage airflow more effectively, reducing turbulence and improving efficiency.

Together, these aerodynamic innovations can reduce energy consumption by up to 0.9 kWh/100 km compared with a similar vehicle without the efficiency-focused enhancements.

A Smarter Electric Drive System

Audi has also introduced significant improvements to the A2 e-tron's electric powertrain, delivering up to 10% greater efficiency than previous systems.

Key advancements include:

  • New silicon carbide semiconductors that reduce energy losses within the power electronics

  • A redesigned electric motor with thinner laminations and optimised winding configuration

  • A low-friction transmission using specially developed oil to improve efficiency at higher speeds

The result is a drive system engineered specifically for real-world driving, delivering efficiency where customers need it most.

Advanced Battery Technology

The Audi A2 e-tron utilises a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, chosen for its durability, safety and long-term performance.

Using a cell-to-pack design, the battery cells are integrated directly into the battery housing, maximising energy density while reducing overall space requirements. Unlike some battery chemistries, LFP technology is designed to withstand regular 100% charging, making it particularly practical for everyday ownership.

Audi's intelligent thermal management system further enhances efficiency by helping the battery achieve 89.6% charging efficiency when connected to a wallbox, reducing energy losses during charging.

More Than Just a Vehicle

The A2 e-tron is also designed to become part of a wider energy ecosystem. The model supports bidirectional charging, allowing owners to use stored battery energy in new ways.

This includes:

  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L):

Powering external devices directly from the vehicle.

  • Vehicle-to-Home (V2H):

Allowing the vehicle to act as a home energy storage system when paired with a compatible charging solution.

These capabilities further reinforce Audi's commitment to making electric vehicles more practical and versatile for everyday life.

Looking Ahead

With its combination of class-leading efficiency, advanced technology and everyday practicality, the Audi A2 e-tron marks an exciting step forward in Audi's electric vehicle journey.

Expected to join the Audi line-up in Autumn 2026, the A2 e-tron will introduce a new all-electric entry point to the Audi range, offering drivers an exceptional balance of efficiency, innovation and usability.
