Art in Motion: Bentley Revolutionise Personalisation

Last month, Bentley showcased a remarkable wave of innovation at Miami Art Week, where Bentley Americas unveiled an extraordinary collaboration with Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy. Renowned as a globally celebrated tattoo artist and creator of iconic designs for some of the world’s most recognisable figures, McCurdy brought his visionary artistry to the forefront. His New York City studio, Bang Bang Tattoo, recently introduced the groundbreaking Magic Ink technology. This cutting-edge innovation allows tattoos to “switch on” or “off” under specific wavelengths of light, empowering clients to transform their body art dynamically and reimagine personal expression like never before.

The collaboration debuted at Miami Art Week with a one-of-a-kind art car featuring a UV-activated design, merging the artistry of two trailblazing pioneers. Both Bentley Mulliner and Bang Bang are known for transforming their clients’ unique visions into deeply personal, co-created masterpieces.

Bang Bang, alongside a team of over 35 tattoo artists across 15 countries, immortalises the personal stories of his clients through intricate and emotive designs. Similarly, Bentley Mulliner, the marque’s in-house bespoke division, specialises in crafting one-off vehicles that reflect the individuality and passions of their owners.

Artist, Bang Bang said:“This is an exciting exploration into artistic customisation in a completely new medium. Bentley provides a canvas as luxurious and transformative as my tattoo art. This project is about creating a masterpiece that celebrates individuality in motion.”

A Spectacular Reveal at Miami Art Week 2024

The Bentley Art in Motion showcase at Miami Art Week 2024 offered guests an immersive, multi-sensory experience featuring projection mapping and UV light installations. Central to the event was a Bentley Bentayga EWB, which served as the canvas for an extraordinary UV-reactive design. Co-created by Bang Bang and Bentley Mulliner, the design was inspired by the dualities within Bentley’s range and the spirit of their collaboration.

Rich Morris, Design Consultant for Bentley Mulliner, explained the concept:“At first glance, the car’s exterior features sharp, tessellated shapes on the bonnet, representing the tension often felt at the start of a journey. These shapes gradually evolve into a fluid ripple pattern along the sides, evoking water droplets and incorporating Bentley’s Azure diamond motif. This progression mirrors the transformation from stress to serenity experienced during a journey in a Bentley.”

Bang Bang’s artistic influence added a bold and dynamic layer to the design, reflecting the performance-driven energy of Bentley’s Speed range. During the reveal, ultraviolet light brought the artwork to life, unveiling striking, animalistic imagery that symbolised unleashed potential. This powerful visual language occupied the negative spaces of the design, creating a harmony between tranquillity and vitality.

This collaboration offers a unique opportunity for Bentley clients to incorporate their personal stories into a one-off vehicle.
