What is the picture with thefts, security and our new models?

Their new models are resilient to theft – they have engineered their vehicles to be robust against the methods they know criminals are using so they already have all the latest security technology available. The robustness in the security in the new models is also reflected in very low theft rates in UK policing data: 
Since January 2022 only 10 of the 12,200 new Range Rovers have been stolen - that’s 0.08%. While 14 out of the 13,400 Range Rover Sports have been stolen - which is 0.1%. New Range Rover and Range Rover Sport consistently exceed standards set by Thatcham, the UK’s leading automotive risk intelligence company, who they have worked with for decades to develop industry leading security systems. Thatcham recently praised JLR for their theft countermeasures as examples of security best practice. They credited JLR for identifying potential security vulnerabilities and developing ways to close them down quickly. The theft-mitigation technology on new models is the basis for the security update for older models.

Why are Range Rovers being stolen?

Sadly, well-funded criminal organisations are the root cause of vehicle thefts. These groups are pursuing the trade of highly valuable and desirable vehicles for the optimum return, amongst other marques, JLR models are targets. Protecting clients from this organised crime is an absolute priority. JLR have a team of experts working closely with police and partners – their proactive approach enables us to support criminal investigations; spot emerging trends earlier; and quickly determine and roll out measures that counter this criminality.

Is Range Rover is the ‘most stolen’ car in the UK?

It’s important to note, that many of these headlines are based on old data, in many cases, it is only relevant up to March 2023. In fact, the latest Police National Computer Data shows that we are ranked fourth last year (November 22-November 23), with a 26% reduction in thefts - the highest reduction of any OEM, the second being 15% - evidence that our latest models are resilient to theft.

What are you doing to protect depreciation?

Accepted Answer

We are delighted to report that the latest figures from independent data analysts show Range Rover, Defender and Discovery residual values are the strongest in the Premium Large SUV sector, offering the lowest levels of depreciation in the sector. Residual values are now realigning across the board following a temporary spike in response to the used car shortages caused by the pandemic and semiconductor crisis. We are pleased that Range Rover residual values continue to ensure that our customers experience some of the lowest levels of depreciation.
