Chestnut Tree House

Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for Sussex and South East Hampshire and provides care for around 300 children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions every year. Thanks to support from the local community, children and families who know they don’t have long together have the chance to live life to the full and say goodbye in the way that is right for them. Over £4 million is needed every year to provide hospice care for local children and their families. Very little of this comes from central government. The rest comes from the amazing donations they receive, fundraising, gifts in wills, shops, the Chestnut Tree House lottery and volunteering.

Fun, Care & Support

On a visit to Chestnut Tree House, kids can be astronauts for the day in the multi-sensory room, discover creepy crawlies on a woodland walk, or form their very own pop group in the music room. It is a place where parents can just be parents, and not carers, and where siblings have people to talk to who understand. As well as care provided at the House, nurses visit families at home, taking children out to explore their local community, or simply giving tired families and carers the chance to take a well-earned break.   Then, when the time comes, they help families say goodbye, in whatever way feels right for them, at home or in the hospice itself. They also offer ongoing bereavement support for the whole family.

Fundraising for 2024

At Harwoods we‘ve introduced a wonderful initiative that encourages our employees across the group to participate in a good old clear out, all for a fantastic cause. From clothing to shoes, bags to children's toys, we’re decluttering together and filling up bags for Chestnut Tree House. Each bag of donated items has the potential to raise an average of £30 in the charity shops. Whether it's pre-loved clothes and accessories, books, home decor and even electrical goods, every item adds up to make a big difference. Plus, donating and recycling the items we no longer use, helps all of us live a little more sustainably!

More recently, the magic of the Snowman Ball last winter extended into April! A lucky winner received an unforgettable prize: a chauffeured ride in a luxurious Bentley Bentayga to Brighton FC's thrilling match against Manchester City on April 25th. Harwoods made sure the winner arrived in style, picking them up, whisking them to the game, and providing a luxurious ride home.

Coming up for 2024, we're very excited to be part of the Big Hoot, Chichester and Arundel’s first large scale outdoor art trail in summer.
